2nd Opinion

Every patient is entitled to a second opinion, both to confirm the proposed diagnosis and treatment, and to learn about alternatives for treating their cancer.

For a comprehensive assessment, it is essential that the treating oncologist be provided with all files, documents and findings. Once we have all of the required documents, we will contact you to set up an appointment.

This pertains to reports regarding all types of examination performed:

-   Referral letter from the treating general practitioner or oncologist

-   All available medical reports (current and past letters relevant to the tumor disease)

-   Laboratory findings (blood tests)

-   Pathology reports (cytology, histology)

-   Radiology tests on CD or USB drive, plus findings (x-ray images, CT, MRI, etc.)

(request from institute performing the tests – images can also be sent directly from the

institute via H-Net to St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital)

-   Nuclear medicine tests on CD or USB drive plus findings (bone scans, PET tests)

(request from institute performing the tests – images can also be sent directly from the

institute via H-Net to St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital)

-   Other diagnostic tests (bronchoscopy, colonoscopies, etc.)

In rare cases, a second opinion may be given simply on the basis of reviewing the patient’s file.

However, examining and observing the patient on-site is always desirable and necessary.
